5 Tips For First-Timers

Navigating your way around Sand Valley’s 1,700 acres can be daunting, but our staff has put together 5 tips for you to have a trip of a lifetime!

1.        Take a caddie

Sand Valley’s philosophy is that the game of golf is best experienced by walking the course, especially when you have the help of a caddie to guide you. More than 200 caddies come to Sand Valley with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. With both professional and junior caddies, you’re sure to find a caddie that fits your playing style. Many of Sand Valley’s junior caddies are vying for the Evans Scholarship, which is need-based and awarded to those with a strong caddie record, excellent grades, and outstanding character. Want to carry your own bag, but would like advice on managing the course? Ask about Sand Valley’s fore caddies.

2.        Play The Sandbox at Sunrise

With Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes, the resort’s premier 18-hole courses, you might forget about one hidden gem, The Sandbox. The 17-hole short course at Sand Valley provides an intimate connection to the sand county landscape. It plays through a restored sand prairie that sits within the same v-shaped sand ridge that frames Mammoth Dunes. With holes designed by Coore and Crenshaw, ranging from 40 to 140 yards, it features the most unique green complexes on the property, including a biarritz, double plateau, lion’s mouth, and a redan. What better way to warm up for your round of 18?

3.        Grab a bite at Craig’s Porch

Come for the golf, stay for the food. Whether you’re grabbing a snack at the turn or just need a light lunch, you must try Craig’s Porch. Overlooking Sand Valley's 1st, 10th, and 18th holes, CP offers cold beverages, delicious, local menu options, friendly Wisconsin service that comes with a genuine smile, and one of the best views on property. The ever-popular pulled pork and chicken tacos are just $1.50 per piece. You'd also be missing out if you didn't try one of the 9 Nye’s ice cream sandwich flavors.

4.        Stay in a Cottage

In addition to single and double occupancy lodge rooms and suites, Sand Valley offers an array of cottages perfect for groups of four to eight. With access to a lake view, a large common room, spacious outdoor deck and fire pits, your group will reconnect with the raw beauty and serenity of the outdoors and socialize in the perfect setting.

5.        Adventure Outside of Golf

Grab a racquet and some buddies and join a Friday grass tennis mixer, hop on a fat-tire bike and ride through expansive sand blowouts, red pine plantations, and majestic oak savannas, or grab a fishing pole and dip your line into the glistening waters of Sand Valley’s lakes. There's more to the resort than just destination golf. In addition to the brand-new practice facility, Sand Valley offers 15 grass tennis courts, 3 lakes for fishing and swimming, more than 15 miles of hiking and fat-tire biking trails, monthly yoga classes, a massage program, a brand-new fitness center, and more.
